«An Anatomy of the Great Reallocation in US Supply Chain Trave»

Recently posted paper «An Anatomy of the Great Reallocation in US Supply Chain Trave» by Laura Alfaro and Davin Chor reveals very insightful patterns.

US has not decoupled or deglobalized as yet from the rest of the world, even as it has reduced its direct trade links with China. Moreover, the top-20 US import trade partners still account for a similar share of US total imports as of July 2025, as they did prior to the trade war in 2017. What has taken place has been a diversification and reshuffling among these top-20 import sources rather finding new import sources.

It is very unclear how it will end up, but dynamics show that the U.S. might trade primarily within its own network of partners, while China gravitates toward a separate trading bloc of its own.
